Getting Colorado Talking

By Thaddeus Napp

Beforeplay.org is an ambitious statewide public education campaign aiming to reduce unintended pregnancy and normalize conversations about sexual health. Developed by Vermilion Design + Interactive for the Colorado Initiative to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy with the support of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Beforeplay.org is targeted to the 18- to 29-year-old age group and seeks to initiate more conversation about sexual health and family planning through an interactive website, social media, events, and statewide advertising.

About 40% of Colorado pregnancies are unintended, and the rate is even higher among young adults in their twenties. Even with sexuality expressed all around us—in music, TV, internet, and advertising—there aren’t a lot of resources that get to the roots of family planning and sexual health. Beforeplay.org is here to fill the gap and spur conversation and action through reliable information, conversation starters, a health center finder and more.

The campaign features Atlas members Daniel and Marcus in materials carrying a powerful message of the importance STD testing and communicating with one's partner play in sexual health. Look for the campaign billboards around Denver and the State as well as commercials on participating Comcast channels. And, of course, visit us at Beforeplay.org.
